The Story of this Site: Our Digital “Barn-Find”

Every creative project has an origin story. Ours involves a mild obsession with internet archaeology.

While searching for a home for this project, I started poking around expiring domains with real creative histories behind them. Independent magazines, art and writers communities, design blogs, tattoo forums. All of them gone dark, their legacies reduced to dead links and fond memories from the people who built them or used to visit them.

One in particular stopped me cold. I had to have it: Digital-Temple.com, a bilingual art and design magazine that had covered everything from photography to illustration to music. Independent, avant-garde, and built entirely around creative community. So I shifted from what originally was going to be more of just a personal blog site, to a site for other creatives to guest post.

I couldn't bring the old Digital Temple back. But I could honor what it represented. So I started quietly acquiring other expiring creative domains (my wife thinks I've become obsessed... she's not wrong), each one a small piece of internet history, pointed toward a new home here.

The internet used to be full of places like this. We're trying to bring one back.

Part blog, part magazine, part creative community. Feeling Creative? resists easy categorization. Which is exactly how we like it.

About the Founder

Hi, I'm Mike, the founder and editor of FEELING CREATIVE?.

For me, creativity has always been a part of life. My father was an advertising creative director for many years, so I grew up surrounded by storyboards, photography and commercial shoots. From a young age, I was fascinated by the power of a single image or a well-told story, investing my time in photography, movies, and music.

That passion led me to my career as a professional cinematographer, producer, editor and the owner of Absolute Motion, a video production company based in New York.

Finding a genuine community outside of social media is tough. I wanted to change that. This creative digital magazine is a resource for sharing what you've learned and connecting with other passionate people. It's a place for real creativity and, best of all, a network where you're actually encouraged to promote and link to your amazing work.
