Psychedelic Illustrator Magsta on Perfectionism and Geometric Art

“Judgment Day”

Judgment Day has two meanings, one for my audience and one for myself.

‍I’m my own worst critic. I’m never satisfied with my work and I’m always chasing perfection, even though I know it doesn’t really exist. Every day feels like judgment day for me. I’m constantly stuck in that space of questioning myself—should I give up or should I keep going?

‍The eyes in my work represent that constant awareness and scrutiny. It’s how we see ourselves, but also how we feel seen by others. The repetition and structure reflect the loops of overthinking and the weight of constantly evaluating everything I do.

‍The message to my audience is simple. We can judge ourselves our entire lives, picking apart everything we do, holding ourselves to impossible standards. But at some point, none of that will matter. There are bigger things we don’t control, bigger judgments beyond us, whether you see that spiritually or not.

‍So why spend your whole life being hard on yourself?

‍This piece is a reminder to step out of that cycle. To accept imperfection, stay true to who you are, and keep going without letting self-judgment take over. Because if you’re always judging yourself, you miss the point of actually living.

‍Artist Bio:

Magsta is a Edinburgh-based psychedelic illustrator known for bold, geometric, eye-driven artwork and surreal circle worlds that explores perception, self-awareness, and the mind.

‍Their work comes from a personal place, often reflecting overthinking, self-judgment, and the pressure of trying to be perfect. Repetition and pattern play a big role in their style, mirroring the constant loops of thought that inspire each piece.

‍Working with essential tremor, Magsta has had to develop control and precision in a different way, turning something that could be seen as a limitation into part of the process and identity.

‍With growing attention online and viral traction in psychedelic art spaces, Magsta continues to build a recognizable style rooted in honesty, persistence, and real experience.

‍Coming from the bottom and building up through art alone, Magsta represents raw creativity, persistence, and turning struggle into something powerful.
