Artist Spotlight: Silvia Hametaj
For me, art is a long and endless journey, just like emotions that have no destination. Its end will coincide with the end of my life.
For many years, painting has been my best therapist, my most loyal and closest companion. It has stayed beside me whenever I needed it, asking nothing in return except to simply be itself.
Art was born with me, revealing itself in my early childhood, but it blossomed during a sad period of my adolescence, which coincided with the passing of my father.
Once again, art came to give rather than take. During that period, my themes and inspirations were somewhat darker due to the despair I felt, but time heals every wound. Even when it does not heal completely, it makes the pain easier to bear.
Today, I am inspired by every feeling and story, whether mine or someone else’s. Currently, I am exploring Cubist style, which attracts me through its colors and forms, and I cannot remain indifferent to Albanian folklore, from where I also originate.
Bio:
I was born in the coastal city of Vlora, Albania. I completed my university studies in Tirana, earning both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Law. Alongside my academic education, I have practiced painting, choosing art as my primary life goal rather than the profession I was formally trained in. Despite the challenges and the path that seems more difficult when following art, I have studied painting autodidactically for years and will continue to pursue it, because it is the only path that leads me to my true destination, the one of my heart.
