Autumn Splendour
I stared at the splendour of autumn in my solitude
I communicated with the autumn spirits
I meditated on the autumn sounds of nature
And in my silence I saw her
She emerged as I opened my eyes
My body was calm; my soul was in bliss
Her presence calmed me
Her presence enchanted me
Her presence nourished me
Her presence astounded me
The sounds of the season stopped as we locked eyes
And became one
I felt myself taken in by her embrace
Surrendering
As I drifted off to sleep, she faded into a dream
And a kaleidoscope of autumn colours
When I opened my eyes, the sound of autumn again played
The sweet birds singing
The gentle rustle of the autumn leaves
The falling of the autumn leaves descending
Slowly to their destiny
To the damp, cold earth blanketing the forest floor
With the many shades of red, orange, green, yellow and pink
Soon every leaf on the tree will have fallen to
Nourish the forest earth, and then the leaves will change in colour to a golden brown, composting
Making way for the winter solstice
The leaves turn brown on the rich black earth and then black
I say goodbye to my friend and prepare for the arrival of a new friend
A new season
Looking forward to her return to begin all over again. Autumn

About Naomi
Naomi Fisher is a Canadian/American artist from Montreal whose decade-long Nature Nymphs series brought together costume-making, photography, and video to explore the relationship between human beings and the natural world. Working across the United States and Europe, she created costumes from found and foraged materials, blending herself and her models into the landscapes around them. Inspired by myths and legends, Ancient Egyptian and Roman art, indigenous cultures, and eco-politics, her jewelry practice extends that same philosophy, transforming upcycled and discarded materials into wearable objects inspired by nature and the cosmos. She is currently developing a new website for her work.
